So I have 1.1.2 with ringtones uploaded and selected but when anyone calls it still plays that damn maramba tune..I cant handle that..Any have tried power off/power on. And all songs are in m4r and less than 40 sec.

I thought I'd share a way to add ringtones that are longer than 30 seconds (tested and working in 1.1.2).

- Convert the full song to AAC
- Rename extension from .m4a to .m4r
- Use WinSCP to SFTP to your iPhone
- Browse to /private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones
- Upload your full ringtone to this directory
- Browse to /private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes
- Edit Ringones.plist

the following is an example of an edited Ringtones.plist file:

* cancel.m4r is the filename of the .m4r file
* the GUID key is a unique 16 character string (AFAIK, not of any importance)

And there you have it... a full length ringtone available for selection in Settings -> Sounds -> Ringtone

I do encourage anyone with more knowledge than I, to script this entire process.

just updated to 1.1.2, its jailbroken, activated, unlocked and ready to go.

coming from 1.0.2 to add ringtones all i had to do was to copy the MP3 files to /var/root/Library/Ringtones then select them under sounds/ringtones in settings menu.

i have that folder now, but my phone wont recognize it.
where do i place the MP3 files???

and no, i dont want to sync anything

I have searched everywhere here, and everywhere on EverythingiPhone.com as well. I had a wallpaper of Rain drops. It looked like a close-up of Rain Drops on maybe a glass surface. I don't know where I had gotten it from but I believe it was on this forum. I am killing myself looking for it. i used customize (1.18beta) on 1.1.2 and now i get no alert what so ever for emails, but i still get visual notifications, no audio for email.
but text alerts work fine.

i hit revert to backup, no joy.
i tried uninstalling customize, no work!
tried SSH-ing and replacing the file manually, no good.

anyone got any ideas?

My iphone and iTunes aren't detecting my music

Hi guys, yesterday I connected my iPhone to my macbook and noticed that iTunes doesn't detect my music nor videos, instead, it classifies the music and videos as "other" and puts them in orange color, I had 5gb of music and now I only have 3 left and no music, also I try to access to the ipod in my iphone and it says "no music", is there a way I can erase all that content and re-sync my iPhone. Also I was wondering, what happens if I put in my iphone, the option that says "erase all content and settings", Im afraid that if I use it, it may erase my applications or lock it again. Im using a 1.1.1 unlocked iPhone via Anysim 1.1, thanks for your help.:D

I made some ringtones as described below. They show up in iTunes AND on the Phone. they play in iTunes, but not on the iPhone, any suggestions?

I use iTunes 7.5 and iPhone Software 1.1.2 I encoded the file into 128kbps AAC. Renamed the file extension from �.m4a� to �.m4r�; the added the �.m4r� file into iTunes.
Connected the iPhone, went to the �Ringtones� tab, and checked the ringtones that I made to send to the iPhone.

I don't remember where I found it, but it was called Tulip.mp3 before i converted it for the iPhone. It's been renamed to replace the Electronic alert, which I hope/assume no one uses. If you do use Electronic, just rename it to some other number.

ringtone won't go off in locked mode

after about 5 mins when my phone is in locked mode the ringtone/vibrations won't go off when someone is calling unless i unlock it and it automatically comes up.

It looks like with iPhone 1.1.2 and iTunes 7.5, Apple has reenabled the old trick of renaming a .m4a file to a .m4r and adding it to your ringtones. It syncs over, and when you tap settings -> sounds ->ringtone there are seperate sections for custom ringtones and built-in ringtones.

My appologies if this has been reported elsewhere, I'm still getting the hang out how this site is organized.

If i want to move my ring ton from my computer to the iphone, how would one go about doing that?

I would like to move ring tons over and some iphone system sounds like my own lock / unlock sounds etc.

how would i find the directory's these files need to go to and what format they need to be? Will mp3 work?

Easy way to customize 1.1.1 ringtones

This time i am glad to announce that we can use our own ringtones and upload them into iphone easily. ( no ssh require)

Instruction

Pre-require
1. assume your iphone has been jailbreak , activate and unlock.
2. your iphone is version 1.1.1
3. my iphone is using jailbreakme.com and anysim 1.1.1 for unlocking.
4. Download this
(already add delete.bat)

Action:
0. sync iphone using itune once then close it
1. Place your own mp3 into mp3 folder. (e.g. abcde.mp3)
(the name must be english and no space inside)
2. Connect your iphone with usb cable.
3. Double click version03.bat
4. Follow the instruction and input the name of mp3 into the programme.
(just type abcde)
(no need to type .mp3)
5. press enter to finish the process
6. You need to reboot iphone, otherwise you only see the file but can't hear any sound

You can now delete customize ringtones
1. Double click delete.bat
2. it would list out all the ringtones
3. Input the name of that customize ringtones you want to delete
(e.g. ff7 .m4r you only need to input ff7)
(no space and .m4r)
4. It would help to delete it.

Enjoy the customize ringtones.

Whats the current status of custom ringtones on firmware 1.1.2? I read a post somewhere that stated the spoof file trick no longer works.

Does the patched MeCCa file still work to simply drop the ringtones in the Library/Ringtones directory?

I'm not really in a rush to goto 1.1.2 as it does not seem to offer much, but aside from just a couple of apps, the biggest thing for me is the ringtones, so just wondering what the status is with them.

Apple is not all bad it seems. Maybe they do listen to us SOMETIMES. :)

Custom Ringtones with the new iTunes and 1.1.2 Firmware is easy. No software required. No Jailbreak required. No transferring Ringtones to the phone manually.

1. Make your ringtone from any song with Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ OR your favorite audio editing software.

2. Open it in iTunes, right click on it and click "Convert Selection to AAC". Then, right click the new file that appears and Click "Show in Windows Explorer" I am not sure what this is on a Mac.

3. Rename the file from .m4a to .m4r

4. In iTunes, click File/Add File to Library and choose the .m4r file.

5. It will now show up under "Ringtones" in iTunes.

6. Make sure that your phone is set up to sync Ringtones on the Ringtones Tab of the phone settings.

Sync your phone

Now, go look at your ringtones list. Your Custom ringtones will show up in a list called "Custom" above the Standard ringtone list.

I recently received a PC from my friend to use while I am in Cali, but my entire phone is synced to my Mac at home. Including all my Wallpapers...

I want to restore my phone and upgrade to the new firmware, but I want to Manually retrieve all my Wallpapers that I synced from my Mac at home. Is this a possibilty, or am I shooting for the Stars?

I've been messing around with all the nooks of Customize, and recently,some of the different categories of it stopped working. I can go into them all, but categories such as: Keypads, Dialers, Batterys, and etc don't confirm the switch of images. I already moved my apps to ROOT_Applications so the disc spac is sufficient, however, I select the graphic, confirm to switch, but no "soft-restart" changes the image for me. It seems like Customize isn't registering the switch?

1. Download the latest version DVD to iPhone Converter + iPhone Movie/Video Converter Suite, and install it. You can know more about it by referring here.

2. Insert the DVD you'd like to convert to your computer's DVD drive.

3. Click 'File' menu and 'Open DVD', or directly hit 'Open DVD' button to load the DVD. Set the profile to be iPhone 480*320 mpeg-4 video which is the default DVD video quality.

4. Click around in the DVD's menu to set up DVD playback as you like, select the subtitle and audio sound tracks etc, then begin to play the movie through the software by click the play button.

5. The following window will pop up. Here, you can rename 'Title Name', set 'Save Path' and output quality, then click 'Yes' button to start ripping DVD to iPhone MP4 or iPhone H264 video from the point that the movie starts. That is all. Just so easy!

If you'd like to record from certain time point, or want to change some parameters like 'output format', 'video bitrates', 'frame rate', 'audio bitrates', please click 'No' button to close the window.

* Select subtitles and languages
Click 'Subtitle' or 'Audio Track' in the 'Setting' menu, choose the related value you like.
* Set output formats
Choose the target file format from 'Profile'. The software supports converting DVD to iPhone 480*320 MP4 video,iPod MP4 video, iPod h264 video, MP3 audio.

* Set the start time to convert
Use the video playback controls to queue up the point at which you want to start ripping. Or click 'Setting -> Go to' and jump to previous/next chapter.
* More parameters
Click 'Setting -> Output video settings', here you can choose different profile, video/audio bitrates, video size, disable video/audio, aspect ratio, frame/sample rate, etc.
If you are not familiar with these options, please view the descriptions listed at the bottom of the window.
*Crop/cut&Resize the movie
If you want to make the widescreen dvd(16:9) to be outputted as fullscreen(4:3) video, you can use the crop function.
Set Crop to "Crop both black bands" and resize to be "stretch to full screen" if you don't need to keep the subtitle.
Set crop to "Crop the upper black band" so you can keep the subtitle in the down black band.

*Direct/batch conversion
If you want to rip you DVD movie into one whole file, please use the direct ripping mode described above.
If you want to rip your DVD by chapters to into separated output files (for example your music DVDs, TV Episode DVDs), you can use the batch conversion rip mode, just ticket out the titles you want to convert and click convert.
You can switch this two modes by clicking on the mode-Direct&Batch.
7. Hit 'Convert' button, choose the recording time point and quality, then click 'Yes' to begin to convert DVD to iPhone video or audio quickly.
8. After ripping, transfer the converted files to iTunes, and then sync to iPhone.
