There is a file called watchdogbundle on your iPod/iPhone. Everytime you start up your iPod/iPhone, springboard has to generate the application map. If you have tons and tons of apps or some very large apps, then this will take a while. Unfortunately, the watchdogbundle file monitors this mapping, and when it takes more than two minutes, it automatically shuts off springboard and trys to remap. To prevent your iPod/iPhone from being stuck at the boot logo, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your iPod/iPhone
2. Connect it to your computer
3. Wait for the noise(dingdong) to register that the computer acknowledges it.
4. SSH into your iPod/iPhone with WinSCP or iphonebrowser
5. Go to /private/var/mobile/ and rename Applications to Application2
6. Your iPod/iPhone should show the springboard in 5-10 seconds
7. Then, rename Applications2 to Applications again
8. Then turn off your iPod/iPhone (you may have to force it)
9. Then turn it back on.

And your done!

The reason for the renaming of the folder is because the springboard generates the application map from the Applications folder. When you take that folder away, it doesnt have to generate any apps on the map, so it boots up immediately. After you have done this, some of your apps may start randomly appearing on your springboard. This is fine. Just do one or two MANUAL syncs with iTunes, and it should install all of your apps at one time.

I know there are different ways getting past your boot screen, but I find this to be the easiest.

was browsing through cydia today when the phone downloads something on its own and proceeds to freeze. ive done everything to get it to unfreeze but its still frozen. is there anything i can do other then let the battery die and try from there?

Hold down power and home for around 10 seconds until your scree blinks off, then reboot normally.

ok i just did that, now when it boots up its stuck at the unlock screen. is this due to that watchdog bundle you were referring to?

is your screen a little dimmer than normal? If so then it sounds like it is this problem so follow the steps above. After you get it back to normal, install categories and put some of your apps into folders. It helps springboard out.

My iphone had SSH turned off when this happens. What should I do?

I can sync the phone on iTunes, it is just the boot screen that it is frozen.

download and use iphonebrowser. It works strait thru USB connection. No wifi.
