☼Incase Slider☼ Let's Be Honest...
Hey everyone, I'm new here and just got my iPhone last week. After doing plenty of research and snooping around the forums, I decided to swing by the apple store and pickup a white Incase Slider case. It looks amazing, fits like a glove, and feels wonderful. Then I realized I was being blinded by it's beauty.
Let's be honest, does this case do anything other than protect it from scratches and make it look nice? I truly do not think in any way, shape, or form that this case will protect the iPhone from impact. Thank you for the 1mm thick plastic. I can now sleep at night.
Anyways, try this: take your slider case off your iPhone and drop it (the case) onto a hard surface. Listen to how weak and flimsy it sounds. It makes me cringe. Does it really sound like it will protect your investment?
Sorry to be negative, but I hope this post will help people open their eyes. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE how the case looks and feels, BUT if you are concerned about protection, I think you should look elsewhere.
P.S. Before people start coming in and saying that they have dropped their iPhones with the case on and the phone is fine, then chances are the iPhone would have survived without the case on as well. For goodness sake what is 1mm between concrete and your iPhone going to do? You may pick up your phone and say "Wow! Not a single scratch on the phone! Sweet!" Then you realize it won't turn on because of how hard it hit the ground. Thanks 1mm of plastic!
Sorry that got kind of long, but I think the aesthetics of the case are leaving most of us in a fog and we are sacrificing true protection. I am going to return my case to the apple store today and give the Contour Showcase a shot.

I encased my Phone in bubble wrap. Doesn't fit well in the pocket, but I can now chuck it into oncoming traffic without worries.

Understand that the case does not meet the protection that you expect. There are a lot of cases out there that do not. Thank you for the heads up on this case. IMO the ones that do (otterbox) make the iphone so much bigger it is not worth it. Its all about style. Accidents happen but i have had mine for eight mounths and have not dropped it yet.

LOLZ....and he thanked me
I actually use a nice leather case with belt clip. I've dropped it twice now while working the floor in the ER, and it has survived without repercussion.
It is all about style. And nothing says class like a nice leather bound iPhone.

You really bought this case thinking it would protect your phone?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a little extra bulk as long as it's not ugly. I'm coming from a Sidekick LX and actually liked the size. I am 6'3" and have pretty large hands, so the iPhone feels kind of small.
Like I said, I honestly think I was blinded by the beauty and put the protection aspect on the backburner. Looks great but if it falls while I'm talking on it or while it's on my lap in the car, I'm screwed.
The leather cases are soft therefore will absorb impact. I had a pouch for my LX and dropped it a few times with no problems. But because the iPhone is considerably smaller, I'm worried I may drop it while talking.
(Also, can someone please tell me how to reply with multi-quotes. I clicked multi-quotes on a few, but didn't know how to get them all in a reply.)

I just cut and paste for multi-quotes. Reply the first time, hit submit, reply the second time, cut, edit first reply, paste. It ain't pretty, but it works. Someone your size, the otterbox case would probably work out okay. I still haven't seen one in real life yet, so I'm still on the fence about it. I had one of their generic pda cases for my iPaq, kept it nice and safe when I deployed to Oman a few years back.

Thanks for the help, bro. I checked out the Otterboxes, but not too find of the style. Plus I am not patient enough to order one (with my luck I would drop my iPhone waiting for the case to ship).

Lol, it's better to be safe than sorry! Btw,the laptop bags they sell nowadays are extremely padded!
Just be careful. The stupidest mistake I made with a phone was put it in my dress shirt pocket at work...then I bent over and you can guess what happened.

to multi quote, click "m.quote" on all the things you want to quote. Then on the last multi quote you click or any, just click the quote button..

I did that with an iPaq. Took three months to get a replacement screen from foxcon.

i'm a big advocate of the BSE (best skin ever)... it keeps the beauty of the iPhone and protects it well enough from dirt and scratches....
moreover, people think that there's nothing on it yet it looks really good and clean.
biggest pro is that it does not add any extra baggage to the phone.

Yea invisible shields are the way to go. I had one on every iPhone I purchased. Before I bought a case, I would just slide it in my pocket and forget it was even there. Plus the texture ads grip. No one even knows I have it on until they see it up close.
I also have a Belkin holster, it's leather, and very slim. Sits at the waist very well and doesn't really move unless you want it to.
But yea, nothing is going to protect ANY phone from a hard impact to the ground unless you got some serious bulkiness to protect it.
