MobileFinder

Hi all,

Has anyone seen/bought the MobileFinder app from the appstore? It looks like a pretty useful application, I'm just curious if you need to be connected via wifi to transfer files from the phone to a computer...

See it here:
Link

Also, I wonder if the creator is the same as the person who made the MobileFinder app for jailbroken phones?

I'm curious about this also, hope it's as good as the one for jailbroken phones was but I'm betting it's not.

I just bought this, and it connects to your desktop really nicely using Bonjour on mac and Filezilla for PC. At only 1.99 i figured it was worth the gamble, and I think it paid off.

One thing I'm curious about, and havent had time to check myself, is if you can browse the rest of your phone if you symlink a root and /var folder inside it's local Documents folder where it stores your files.

I'm gonna give this a go after lunch and post my results for anyone interested.

Yes it is the same app as the one from jailbroken phones. If you go to the MobileFinder Googlecode page, it gives you a link to another website which has ported MobileFinder to 2.0 and put it in the App Store...

Yes but it is a complete rewrite and not the same as the old app.

From the Google Code webpage:
News

* Version 2.0 of iPhone OS has removed support for many of the features that MobileFinder depends on. This has made transitioning MobileFinder's codebase to 2.0 very difficult. The official SDK version of MobileFinder is a complete rewrite, and thus has been tailored to make use of the features that are supported on 2.0. Unfortunately, a 2.0 version of MobileFinder based on the hacked SDK is not likely in the near future.

I bought this app today and it works as said. It doesn't have Bonjour though, as x99x said, unless its not working for me ATM. It runs great and you can create .txt files within it. It also reads .pages files better than .doc files because it compresses them into a zip to read them, which allows the iPhone to read larger files.

I hope they add FTP in it like Caravan has.

I'm connecting through Cyberduck via the Bonjour tab. There was nothing to set up, just click the iphone ftp showing up in the list and logged in an anonymous. Easy stuff.

Shouldn't Bonjour allow it to automatically show up in Finder, as DataCase does? Either way, connecting to it through Coda is a simple double-click, so it's not a big deal to me.

To rename click the blue arrow beside the filename, then tap on the file name and the keyboard will come up.

I've done the symlink trick to view the filesystem by default with MobileFinder. However, I was wondering if there's a way to give MobileFinder the ability to delete files in, for example, the Downloads folder that the SafariDL plugin uses. I've been looking for a way to delete stuff I had previously downloaded but do not want anymore. I've tried changing permissions and such but so far no dice. If anyone knows how to do this with MobileFinder that'd be great, as it's a nice app. However, if there's an alternative app you can suggest that'd be appreciated as well.

I believe the reason for this and also the reason has do to with the owner of the application. It needs to be root rather than mobile, that way it would have write acces to the symlinked folders and then you can create, delete or rename items there. Untill the ownership is changed you are only able to view the root file structure.

Im not 100% sure if im correct, nor do i know how to change the ownership.

Any ideas anyone?
