Cydia on 2.0 - Be patient after doing installs!
Just a little note here as I've seen people running into Spinning Wheels of Death by prematurely turning off their iphone after a Cydia install:
Let it do its thing and be patient!
Right now, there is no real visual indicator as to what is going on behind the scenes, but much like a normal app from the appstore, the package will hang for a while after install as it goes through all of its checks and balances on the back end.
Trying to turn your iphone at this point because you suspect its hanging on something could cause problems and ultimately lead to a restore.
So the rule of thumb, just leave Cydia alone after exiting and your apps are being applied the springboard, signed, and then resprung. 3 minutes for all this to happen is not out of the ordinary!
Thought I'd pass my observations along, MiM scared me a bit there, thought I'd have to restore myself until I figured I'd just leave it alone.

I had an essential cydia upgrade yesterday and left it for 10 minutes and still nothing happened. Then tried a was force reboot and was then given the option to forcibly remove the partial installation. Seems to working ok now but not sure what happened.

I've had this happen a lot....
I've had this happen more than once and it's extremely irritating. Sometimes the spinning wheel will just sit there locked.... if I reboot sometimes it's fine and sometimes I need to restore the firmware. I've been waiting 8 minutes on the BigBossPrefs.... is there any way to make Cydia give more indication of what's going on? A locked spinner makes it seem like something's wrong....

I've gotten the spinning wheel twice... a hard reboot (hold power and home) will usually solve the problem. Then just open Cydia back up and reinstall whatever it was.

DFU Restore Mode:
1. Boot phone 2. Hold Power + Home until the screen goes BLACK 3. Continue to hold home and let go of power 4. Plug into iTunes (screen should still be BLACK) 5. Within 20 seconds it should come up in recovery mode 6. Let go of Home and hit RESTORE in iTunes.
Firmware 2.0 DFU: 1. Power phone OFF. 2. Hold power + home for 10 seconds. 3. Let go of power and continue to hold home until iTunes finds the phone.

I still am afraid to install apps in Cydia.
I've seen it spin the wheel and then the wheel locks and there are strange white bars on the bottom of my menu page. Sometimes when I reboot it's fine, other times I've had to restore.
Is this a bug in Cydia? Do I have too many apps installed? HELP! Is this a known issue? If so is it being looked at? What could cause this behavior? Would it be possible to change it so it gives more indication of what's going on (the install style text would be great).

my problem is that after installing anything, i can't exit cydia. i will even try to force quit it, and it won't let me. the app is not frozen, as i can continue to do things in it. it just... won't close. so anytime i install something, i have to force a shut down and turn it back on again. probably not good!

I think the best is not to try to outsmart Cydia. I have no problems with it at all. One problem came from coolnotes install/uninstall - vendor forgot to backup some files needed by uninstall and i screwed up my Notes. It is fixed, search this forum.

I think it's stabilizing
One problem I had was when I tried to install two things at the same time. It really should stop you from doing this if it knows it's in the middle of an install. Also, after installing something I'm no longer able to see my Applications folder on the iPhoneBrowser.. Overall it's definitely much more stable than it used to be.
I'd suggest something regarding the ability to view failure logs from the app, and possibly override (for example, something trying to replace/delete .pngs on the phone can continue even if it's gone).
Thanks!
Jeff

On the occasion that Cydia won't let me exit (usually after I upgrade multiple items then install a new one), I use the double-Home button thing to get to the iPod and then just single-Home button out of that. Seems to only happen for me when mixing upgrades and new installs.

Cydia is slow a ****... Sorry but that's the truth, no progress bar, only a damn spinning wheel.doing an upgrades takes 10+ mins.
With Installer it used to go sooo fast. Hope it'll be released soon.

Sorry, patience doesn't do it...Cydia just sucks. I installed Boss Tool, progress wheel froze after 5 minutes, waited an extra 15 minutes. Nothing. Can't force quit, nothing. So, I force restart and guess what? Frozen at Apple logo. This has happened numerous times too. I'm done with Cydia - it's ****.

This happens to me all the time. And there seems to be no way of knowing when it will happen. For example, I can install Customize 5 times( I seem to be restoring ...a lot) ,then the next time it will crash.
