How should I summarize it?... iPhone fonts suck in many ways..., so I changed them to Nokia S60.
...I love Helvetica, it's a great font. Really. Sleek, tight, sobre. Essence. So masculine. I really like it. But on the tight screen of the phone a more condensed font looks better. So... tada... meet Nokia S60. Condensed, legible, with personality. I like it so much, so I decided to put it on my iPhone. I liked it even more after that, so I decided I would share that soothing pleasure with you guys.
Also, iPhone's Mobile Safari [fonts] lack script support beside Latin-1, and so, by this replacement, it gains a much greater Unicode coverage (no more Times+Helvetica interbreeding, yay!).
Some background: the iPhone UI is hardcoded in Helvetica, so almost every other font in the system (/var/Fonts and /var/Fonts/Cache) appears to be used by Mobile Safari or some other applications; there lies Arial, Courier New, Georgia, Times New Roman, Trebuchet, Verdana and some asian fonts -- the common www fonts. Marker Felt is used in Notes.app. American Typewriter is conspicuously absent from any application I've seen so far. Some of them, like Apple Gothic Regular (some asian script) and Helvetica Neue (cyrillic) are used only for some non-english scripts. The fonts are fine, I don't complain about their appearance, but I lack the Unicode support.
Basically you would replace the fonts from your iPhone (/var/Fonts and /var/Fonts/Cache) with those provided here. I won't teach you how to do it, or how to make a backup of your system files. It's very trivial and you will find that info practically everywhere. But, of course, your iPhone needs to be jailbreaken.
That's about it. Enjoy the mod and feel free to give feedback.

just download it and take a looksy. It'd be alot quicker than waiting for a reply imo. You could always just replace it with a font that includes Turkish characters if the Nokia S60 font doesn't i think. But i haven't done this nor do i know how to so...
can someone upload the files it writes over? i didnt get a chance to back up =[
also can you change the files so it only replaces fonts everywhere but on the sms app? maybe its just me but whenever you text someone the bubble is abnormally large? idk it just doesnt look good
thanks

The original fonts are replaced with this mod, so you can't have the (old) Helvetica and the (new) Nokia S60 simultaneously.
That bubble is hideous, but I believe it can be changed into something else by modifying MobileSMS.app (the bubbles are two PNGs in that folder).
I attached the original, unmodified fonts (from /var/Fonts/Cache/).

yah those bubbles are ridiculous... i love the font though its just those oddly shaped bubbles. i didnt think they would bother me as much as they did.

That bothers me too, so I lowered them 2 pixels and changed them to something much simpler. The font has different metrics than Helvetica and the bubbles do not perfectly fit. Files attached (replace the ones in MobileSMS.app folder).

brinzei, so much thanks! Now my iPhone is more lovely!
No problem. The icon set has reflective dock optional icons and you should def use those if you like mine. Just replace the icons you use for the dock with reflective ones and bam they look shiny. adorned
