Question about upgrading to firmware 2.02

So I have a jailbroken 2.01 iphone 3g with all of my apps, music settings etc.

It is to my understanding that in order to jailbreak the 2.02 firmware I first need to download it from apple, install it on the phone and it will then wipe everything out then use the latest pwnage tool to rejailbreak.

My question is can I still retain all of my apps and settings and what not from a backup or do I have to redo everything manually again after i rejailbreak? Thanks

You can re-sync when your done and get all your stuff back.

The sync process just takes forever now.

You cannot retain your apps, it will only let you sync your settings back on your phone (brightness, sms, call history, etc) Any apps will have to be reloaded as well as themes and anything else that you have downloaded.

is there anyway around this so that I don't have to go downloading everything all over again?

2 different contrary responses, need a 3rd to confirm here...

iTunes will absolutely not back 3rd party apps up. You do not need a 3rd opinion, it does not. I have had the iphone since it came out last year, trust me I know. I have done this like 100 times. It only backs up preferences. Just do it and you will see, you will want to upgrade to 2.0.2.

Let's be specific though.

Third-party apps get erased. You will have to re-install.

AppStore apps can be re-synced through Itunes.

Now, does that make more sense.

Question:

I'm in the process of upgrading through iTunes from 1.1.4, to 2.0.2, and the progress bar has been stuck about 75% of the way finished on the "Restoring iPhone Software..". Now, how long is this suppose to take? It's been about 40 minutes now. ugh

if im still on 1.1.4 is it worth it to upgrade? i upgraded to 2.0 when it came out but downgraded back because there were none of the same great apps that i got on installer. So are there more apps on cydia and installer to where it would be worth it to upgrade?

some of the main apps i have are summerboard mxtube and pocket money

Did you encounter a huge upgrading delay? Like did the progress bar on iTunes for the "Restoring iPhone Software..." just get stuck for an extended period of time???
