Official SDK on jailbroken device

Hi -

Im looking to get started with iTouch/iPhone development but am not sure whether to use the unofficial or the official SDK ... After reading posts on this forum Im a little confused - can applications build with the official SDK run on a jailbroken device? Is this why jail breaking the 2.0 firmware is such a big deal - to handle the need for certificates etc?

Thanks

yes, they can but only if they are purchased from apple.
you cannot run official SDK applications without downloading them from the app store.
since applications there can be offered for free that shouldn't be a big deal though, except you as a developer have to pay $99 to apple.
