2nd Beta of 2.1 iPhone Software Seeded to Developers

Apple has now released their second beta version of the iPhone 2.1 software to developers. It comes about a week after the first release. This one seems to just include some bug fixes according to their release notes.

Quote:
This is the second beta of the iPhone SDK targeting iPhone OS 2.1, including bug fixes to iPhone OS as well as an early implementation of the Apple Push Notification Service API. This API is not yet integrated with a live push server.

There is still no word on when this version will be released to the public or how many more beta versions there will be. Apple has not released any kind of timeline or information regarding this release.
Early hints of turn-by-turn navigation and copy/paste, which were found in beta one, might not have even been new findings. These hints exist in the 2.0 software as well. There are however, references to a new iPod touch model which could lead to an iPod touch hardware upgrade very soon.

We will keep you posted on any new developments.

Apple is ridiculous, you get accepted into the Development program, pay the $99, but only have access to firmware 2.0. When you speak to them about it, they have a "you should be happy that you have access to 2.0 and can develop for the App Store". I wouldn't have joined and paid if this was the way they were going to handle it.

I was under the assumption after joining and paying you would have access to the latest tools.

that's what's should happen but apple can do what ever they want cuz there apple , they have your money they could care less what you think now, your 1 out of who know how many people who are devs and unless you can get a complete boycott of nearly every dev out there you sol thats what sucks about major corps.

Yeah this is TOTAL CRAP! I emailed support twice already regarding this issue (about not having access to 2.1) and have not gotten a single reply back even...that's pathetic!

They really should have made it clear...honestly, I didn't sign up to develop any apps...heck, I don't know the first thing about developing apps...but I signed up to beta test the latest firmware (currently 2.1) and report issues and bugs. If you guys remember, when the Dev Program initially started, the thing was: Test drive the latest beta 2.0...and not, develop apps for the latest beta on their main iPhone page.

Give them a break, it's their first phone so they're not as experienced as other mobile manufacturers who've had years of experience.

Also, people expect change now. The fact that we've gone from 1.0 to 2.0 and 3G in a YEAR is amazing. Compared to other products, the iPhone is moving FAST.

jobs said this when the first iPhone came out last year and I think it is still relevant today... The biggest developments on the iphone will be software changes, not hardware.

The iPhone is a very capable device, it is just matter of software upgrading to get the things we want (turn by turn, picture/video messaging, etc).

Sit tight everone.
