I also have a legit unlocked iphone 3g in norway. I payed the carrier to release me from the contract and they unlocked my phone so I can use it with any carrier I want.
I also want to know if I pwn my phone will it still be unlocked??

@gafu, haha...its unfortunate that they passed on the deal..all their phones are terrible. Every phone they have is overpriced and their customer service is trash. People want to choose their phone i.e. get an unlocked phone. My point was directed at GSM phones not CDMA. I know geohot references an amplifier chip but that is never going to be explored to the point of CDMA and the frequencies would never match. To be honest think of the math involved in getting a new 3g iPhone on ebay and such...way over priced. You can get your hands on a first gen for cheaper anywhere online then just pwn it. The point of the new phone is to enhance network speed, if they released a new phone with a different back, the hype would not be as large. since the phone is sig checked on start up, unlocking the phone would maybe last once and after it was restarted the sig check would block it and re-lock it.

I dont know the specs on the chipset that apple is using but you could unlock the 3g band frequency technically and use the various 3G networks nation wide. just my 2 cents unless you have to physically go into the iphone and put it a different frequency 3G chip.... now thats a friggin hack there lol

i saw on the RIP dev blog that the new Installer will be released tomorrow, aug. 2nd . woot!
and they mentioned it will be available via cydia 
i just looked at their blog again, and actually i dont know when installer is going to be released. sorry about that. |

If anything, it's because the 3g is still being sold, whereas the 2g isn't on the shelves anymore. Plus people always want the newest and best, even if they can't fully use it. |

At least with the iPhone 3G you will have GPS. Still a slight step up.

DFU Restore Mode:
1. Boot phone 2. Hold Power + Home until the screen goes BLACK 3. Continue to hold home and let go of power 4. Plug into iTunes (screen should still be BLACK) 5. Within 20 seconds it should come up in recovery mode 6. Let go of Home and hit RESTORE in iTunes.
Firmware 2.0 DFU: 1. Power phone OFF. 2. Hold power + home for 10 seconds. 3. Let go of power and continue to hold home until iTunes finds the phone.

ok wait a min, sine t-mo for example uses multi MHz for their phone, how would a 3g work on tmo if the 3g just is not able to pick it up?
I still think 3g won't work with tmo but if I'm wrong, educate me please.

i used winpwn to jailbreak my iphone. i do have cydia and i wanted to use ibrickr to change my sms sound. ibrickr says that my 2.0 version is too old and must update and jailbreak. my version on my phone says: 2.0 (5a347) and firmware 040504g. is this the right info that should be on after using winpwn? i can download and use themes i really want to change the sms sound is there another program to use
never mind i used the iphonebrowser and changed all sms sounds.
