how to get to the file system from my mac..

Hey guys, I don't know if my title is correct, but I was wondering how to connect my iPhone to my mac and go through the /var/root.... all that stuff!

I used to do it with iFuntastic but now I am running 1.1.3 jailbroken as of last night. Basically what I want to do is get customize to start working! I got it working twice, but haven't been able to get it working since!

anyway, if anyone could help me that would be great!
