Would a 3G iphone do a T-Mobile customer any good?
If you are a T-Mobile iphone user and they release the 3G iphone next month as rumered, would you need to go back to AT&T to take advantage of the 3G device?

Until the dev team or some one else comes up with an unlock for the final version of firmware version 2.0, you would only be able to have service with AT&T

t-mo 3g is not compatible with att's 3g network. the new iphone would still only be able to use t-mo edge.

Of course 3G will work on any network, in exactly the same way EDGE does if it's available

Incorrect.
There are different frequencies that the 3G network uses and as long as your phone supports the 3G provided by your service provider, then the phone will work.
HOWEVER, T-mobile USA 3G uses 1700 MHz spectrum for download and 2100 MHz for upload (850/1900 for voice). AT&T uses the 850/1900 MHz frequency spectrum for 3G data (850 MHz for voice). If the phone doesn't have a radio with the correct frequency, the phone will not work. It is highly unlikely that Apple will include a odd-ball 1700 MHz radio with the iPhone because IIRC T-mobile USA is the only one to use this freq.
You will still be able to use the "3G" iPhone on T-mobiles 2.5G (EDGE) network (backwards compatible) meaning the phone will work and you can get data, just at EDGE speeds.

No. TMobile will be using a different frequency for 3G than ATT currently does. No ATT 3G will work on Tmobile 3G, locked or unlocked.
So the answer is no. Don't get a 3G iPhone when it's out.

If it has GPS functionality and still works w/Edge, I would think the purchase could be cool...

Its going to be funny.
The day 2.0 gets released, many un-expecting unlocked iphone owners will upgrade not knowing of what Steve jobs said about its rumored "Effects", and their phones will be the first to go...
Im defiantly using my wall charger for awhile, lol

What does using your wall charger have to do with anything? Your firmware will NOT upgrade itself. Just like all previous versions (and all other apple software) it will give you a pop up notification that an update is available and ask if you'd like to download and install or cancel.

So basically to sum it all up..for all T-Mobile users like myself, purchasing the 3G iPhone won't make a difference to our current one correct?
Basically saying the 3G iPhone will only work on AT&T? Thank you.

Well, because apple is contractually obligated to keep other GSM users out of using their phones, so it will probably have some kind of clever lock on it, keeping out the typical Ziphone, iliberty, ect. But I can give you a 98% GARUNTEE ( forgot how to spell that, even though I can spell much more complex words easily, lol ) you that it will be Cracked, and opened to other networks...eventually.
****ADVISORY****
My opinion is stated below, lol.
But in my opinion, I mean, 3G? Who needs that space. My dad uses his iphone to run his business. It has his hundreds of clients info on it, and he hasn't taken over 9GB of his 16GB phone. Who needs 3G?
