Dev Team Install BSD World 1.1.1 Windows

    From ModMyi - Wiki

This guide assumes you have SSH installed on your jailbroken iPhone running 1.1.1 firmware. If you don't, the following guides will get you up to speed:

Dev Team Jailbreak 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 Windows

Dev Team Installing SSH 1.1.1 Windows

    Contents

    Step 1

Download and extract the following files to anywhere:

    http://iphone.natetrue.com/BSD_Base-2.0.tar.gz

    http://iphone.natetrue.com/BSD_Extra-2.1.tar.gz

Optionally, download and extract this file as well:

    http://www.modmyi.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1097

    Step 2

Download and open WinSCP: Available here!

    Connect to your iPhone.

IP Address: Check your current WiFi settings on your iPhone.
(If you have trouble, try issuing a static IP.)
    Login Name: root
    Password: alpine
    Connection Type: SCP
    Port: 22

If this is your first time connecting, it may take a minute or so. If a dialog pops up asking to Abort after 15 seconds, ignore it. If you get an error about a groups command, ignore this as well.

If your connection is refused, verify the above settings and try again. If your sure you have everything right, but you still can't connect, try following the SSH installation guide again. You may also want to follow the instructions under "Troubleshooting" on the SSH installation guide.

    Step 3

Navigate to the root directory of your iPhone (the / directory, not /var/root/ or /private/var/root).

Drag-and-drop the extracted contents of BSD_Base (the bin, lib, sbin and usr directories, not the BSD_Base directory itself) and BSD_Extra (the bin and usr directories, not the BSD_Extra directory itself) to the root directory of your iPhone. You may want to do this in two moves (one for BSD_Base and one for BSD_Extra) rather than one. If you downloaded the optional BSD_More package, do the the same thing with it. Before pressing the Copy button, press More >> to reveal more options. Check the box next to "Set permissions" and make sure the textbox has this text:

    rwxr-xr-x

Note: You can also enter the Octal code of 0755.

When you're done it should look something like this:

Once your options look similar, press the Copy button. Note, if prompted to overwrite, select Yes to All. Nothing will be overwritten, the contents of BSD_Base/bin will just be merged with the contents of (root:)/bin on your phone and so forth.

    Step 4

While you're connected, issue a few commands to regain syncability with iTunes. In the winSCP terminal window (ctrl+t) type the following commands:

    rm /var/root/Media
    mv /var/root/Media.old /var/root/Media

Note: This will fix iTunes saying your iPhone's capacity is 300mb.

    Congratulations!

Good job! Your iPhone should now have a working BSD subsystem. You may want to right click one of the newly transfered files and check its properties to insure it has the 0755 octal code for its permissions. So what's next? Time to crack that SpringBoard to allow the addition of third-party application icons on the homescreen. Guide here: Dev Team Install Springpatch 1.1.1 Windows

If you opted to install the BSD_More package, you should also now be able to issue the "passwd" command in a Terminal SCP client like Putty (WinSCP's Terminal window won't work as it doesn't allow user input). Alternatively, you may also wait until you have AppTapp Installer running and install MobileTerminal and issue the "passwd" command there. Once issued, you should be prompted to enter a new password, and again to confirm. The password you entered will be the new password you will use to connect to your iPhone with SCP (replacing the default of alpine, or sometimes dottie). Guides linked from here will often instruct you to use the default "alpine" password, just remember to use the new one you supplied here instead.
