IPhone unlock OS X Part 1

    From ModMyiFone - Wiki

iPhone unlocking is getting easier by the minute! This guide will show you how to unlock the iPhone using the GUI app by Erica Sadun. This is a 4 part guide, and should take less than an hour to complete. 25 minutes of that is spent with you doing nothing, and the iPhone is doing it all, so really it's only 35 minutes. ;)

    Part 1, Getting to 1.0.2

If you are running 1.0.2 firmware or below, check the instructions in the menu to upgrade.

If you do not need your hand held, the basic way to do this now is to download the 1.0.2 firmware file, and when you open up iTunes, instead of just clicking Restore, click SHIFT+Restore (in Windows) or OPTION+Restore (in OS X), and iTunes will ASK you which firmware file you want to use to restore. Then choose the 1.0.2 file you just downloaded. This will allow you to update to 1.0.2, instead of 1.1.1.

If you are running 1.1.1 firmware, do not continue with these instructions. Check here instead.

If you are already running 1.0.2 iPhone firmware, you can skip to Part 2 of this guide.
If you have already activated your iPhone, you can go to Part 3.
If you are already able to SSH into your iPhone, you can go to the final step, Part 4

First make sure you are running version 1.0.2 of the iPhone firmware. This is how to do so:
(WARNING: Make sure you back up your important info if you already have stuff on there and are not running 1.0.2. This method will erase your iPhone and restore it to factory settings.).

Plug in the iPhone to your computer, first making sure iTunes is quit, and you have disabled the iTunesHelper. You can force quit the iTunes helper by going into Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and scrolling to iTunesHelper, then clicking it and clicking Force Quit in the top left of that window.

Now that those are off, connect your iPhone to the computer. Press and hold both the Sleep and Home buttons on your iPhone for about 25 seconds until it displays "Please connect to iTunes" and has a picture of a yellow triangle. It will appear to turn off and back on during those 25 seconds. Don't worry, this is normal.

Now, open up iTunes. You should see the following message appear, hit OK.

Good. Now, on the next window, click Restore.

Confirm the Restore and Update and sit back for about 15 minutes. It will go through a bunch of steps...

        • At this stage you need to manually select the 1.0.2 firmware as described a the TOP of this page. Otherwise you will be upgraded to the 1.1.1 firmware and your iphone becomes inoperable.***

iTunes will then let you know your software has been restored to factory settings. Hit OK, and wait while iTunes waits for the iPhone.

When you see the iPhone appear in your devices in iTunes, quit iTunes.

Great! Now lets move on to part 2, activating the iPhone. If your iPhone is already activated, you can skip to part 3, installing Installer.app and getting SSH ready.
