Wow, some people are awfully stupid here. Just because they release the same software for a device doesn't magically make it have that feature. Every version of Windows includes support for A Laptop Battery, but just because you install Windows XP that doesn't mean you can unplug your computer and walk around. Go ahead, try it, I know you are curious now. I will wait....
Rebooted yet? Alright. The iPod Touch has been running the same "Version" as the iPhones for as long as it has been out, that doesn't mean it can suddenly make calls. What people, okay, not normal people, either way, don't understand is that the current hardware can't support 3G, there is no "magic" to make this happen, period. If you want 3G, you need a new iPhone, period.

Yeah. I could care less about 3G (no coverage where in my area) but it's nice that you have the option to turn it off to save battery, much like how you can turn off wifi. |

Sold Iphone
I just sold my 8gb for $300 on ebay four days ago, cracked screen and all. But now i'm stuck using my old Razr but still on the iphone data plan. Not sure about buying a 16gb (but apple doesn't have any) or just wait it out for the 3g. I'm going thru withdrawals here man . . .  |

Except Apple create the software for their hardware, so they don't support anything 3rd party. Microsoft create OS'es for all kinds of devices, so they include support for all kinds of components.
Apple are working on 3G most likely because they are going to include it. It makes sense to as its an obvious upgrade. But it has its downsides (battery life, bulkiness etc.) |

"3g murders battery life" - is this because a 3g Iphone will be used "MORE" or because "EDGE" stays connected so damn long trying to download one simple web page the phone overheats and you simply never use it again... therefore increasing battery life by not using it?????????
3g probably downloads a web page in 1/10th the time.. enabling MORE web page download vs battery drain = more web page browsage.. = more actual usage = more precieved battery drain when in the end each MB download might use less battery simply because the phone gets it done MUCH faster.
Beta testers... this would be a good study.
I know my phone gets all hot sometimes just looking at weather.com
