Has anyone confirmed that AT&T is indeed able to track this?? I really want to have the ability to tether (quite often), but don't want to risk any crazy bills?? How can they know if you are tethering or not???
It already exists in windows. It's a simply a proxy server setup. Go to Control Panel->Internet Properties-> LAN settings. Add the IP address of the proxy server on the iphone.
In theory they could look at the browser user agent in the request header for any HTTP stuff. They'd be able to see when Firefox is used. Of course it is possible to forge your host header so firefox looks like your iPhone version of Safari......
I believe it has something to do with the ports used aswell, for example if u were to sign on to AIM, it would know you are not on the iphone cause the ports used are not normally used on the iphone, i believe you can get caught doing this pretty easy and i think it could get worse than just some outstanding fines, i believe they have the right to terminate your contract
