    WiSync

    From ModMyiFone - Wiki

    wiSync 1.1

We are proud to release wiSync, the result of 2 weeks of continuous work and refinement by the DRP Dev Team. wiSync was previously known as iSync, the primitive app that allowed iPhone/iPod Touch users to automatically synchronize files between their iPhone and iPod Touch.

We are now proud to release wiSync under its new name, with a great new look and advanced features that make this release 100x better than the old one. A completely revamped user interface, enhanced scheduling features, the ability to change the iPhone root password and much more.

This version runs completely from the GUI, no terminal windows as promised, and for the first time, we have included a native app - wiToggle - that allows you to control the app's behaviour from the iPhone, and allows you to manually synchronize whenever you want!

    Usage

    System Requirements

    Mac Requirements

Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger or Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard
    A wireless network connection
Remote Login must be enabled on your Mac (its in System Preferences>Sharing, or see the guide here)

    iPhone/iPod Touch Requirements:

A jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch
    BSD Subsystem
    OpenSSH

    Installation

To install wiSync and wiToggle to your iPhone and Mac, download wiSync 1.1 (non-member download) and run the Install.pkg inside.

The install will do its thing, and complete. Now open wiSync (Applications/wiSync/wiSync) to get to the preferences window.

Make sure your Mac and your iPhone are on, and connected to your WiFi. Here's how to tell which field does what:

    • Mac Username - This should already be filled out correctly, and is your Mac username
    • Mac IP Address - This should also already be filled in correctly, but if not, you can find your Mac's IP address by going to System Preferences > Network, and checking the Status in the top right area.
    • iPhone IP Address - You can find your iPhone's IP address by going into Settings > Wi-Fi, and then clicking the small blue circle with an arrow in it to the right of the network you're connected to.
    • iPhone Root Password - Unless you have specifically changed this, in which case you'd know it, the iPhone root password is alpine for firmwares 1.1.1 and above, and dottie for firmwares 1.0.2 and below.
    • iPhone Sync Folder - This is the folder on your iPhone that will contain the synchronized files and folders. It will be in /var/root/
    • Mac Sync Folder - This is the OS X folder we will be syncing. Anything you place in here will be synced to your iPhone when you run wiToggle from the iPhone, or during the automatic scheduled synchronization.
    • Schedule Settings - This is how often you want your iPhone to attempt to sync with the Sync folder you've set up on your Mac. You can also always manually sync from the iPhone by running wiToggle and selecting Force Sync Now.
    • Additional Options - You can choose a few other options before you install. I recommend changing your root password to something you can remember, for security's sake.

Making sure the Install wiSync Manager Tool on iPhone option is checked, and all the information is set correctly in the fields, click Install in wiSync. You should also have Auto-Lock set to at least 2 minutes (Settings > General > Auto-Lock on your iPhone), since this install will take around 90 seconds to complete.

The install should take roughly 90 seconds, with a big pause in the middle on the progress bar - don't worry, its doing its thing, you're ok. ;)

Once the installation is completed, you will see your iPhone go back to the lock screen. Good! wiToggle is now installed on your iPhone and you can begin syncing!

    Using wiToggle

wiToggle is the native iPhone application you use to sync to your Mac.

To use, after installing and setting up through wiSync, simply tap the wiToggle icon on your iPhone home screen. You will see the following window:

Making sure your iPhone and Mac are both connected to WiFi, press Force Sync Now. You will see a black screen while its syncing, which will disappear after sync is complete. Good! This means all your files are synced, and you can now find them in /var/root/Sync (or whatever folder you set wiToggle to sync to on your iPhone) on your iPhone! Note: Use MobileFinder to see these files from your iPhone.

    Changelog

1.0.1: Fixed support for Tiger (10.4) users.
Native app (wiToggle) supports Disable/Uninstall options.
Native app is now Dock app compatible.

1.0.1: Fixed Sync folder to default to blank in wiSync.
Changed wiToggle to better handle alert windows.

    1.0: Initial iFrancis/ModMyiFone release.

    Notes

Native 64bit support has been dropped in order to support Tiger (10.4), 64bit users will still be able to run the app and there is no noticeable difference in performance.
