    Custom iPhone Background

    From ModMyiFone - Wiki

Mad props (this is street speak) go out to JakeyBoy for figuring this one out in this thread.

We can now have custom background on our iPhones! All it takes is wrecking the icons.

Here's the end output. Yeah, I know it looks ugly but -- *shrug*.

Its still a work in progress, a few easily fixed known issues are:

Text for icons doesn't show. This is just because we haven't made the large images transparent in those images, so the text doesn't show through.
Calendar is a little off. Again, just adjustments of transparency in the large images.
If you press any of the bottom icons, there is a brief dark gray over the entire column before it launches. This we are working on.

Without further adieu, here we go!

Step 1. If you have not followed the Get Connected Guide, do so now. If you have, we'll jump right in.

Step 2. You will need modified icons for your background. We are essentially creating 4 icons which are as tall as the iPhone screen, with an image sliced on them, giving you a full background on the iPhone. For this initial guide, I will be using JakeyBoy's icon files (also here, but we'd love to have even more from you guys. Feel free to pop up your own in our Skinning Forum.

Unzip Jakey's background icons to your desktop. Put the icon.png from the Calculator folder into your phonedmg folder on your desktop.

Step 3. Start up Terminal and type ./iphoneinterface and return to run iphoneinterface.

Step 4. Type cd /Applications/Calculator.app/ and hit return, then type putfile icon.png and hit return.

Step 5. Now put that icon.png we put in the phonedmg folder from Step 2b back into the Calculator folder in the Background! Folder. Now take the icon.png from the Clock folder in the Background! Folder and place it in the phonedmg folder.

Step 6. Back in Terminal, type cd /Applications/MobileTimer.app/ and return. Then type putfile icon.png and return.

Step 7. Now put that icon.png we put in the phonedmg folder from Step 5 back into the Clock folder in the Background! Folder. Now take the icon.png from the Notes folder in the Background! Folder and place it in the phonedmg folder.

Step 8. Type cd /Applications/MobileNotes.app/ and hit return. Then type putfile icon.png and return.

Step 9. Now put that icon.png we put in the phonedmg folder from Step 7 back into the Notes folder in the Background! Folder. Now take the icon.png from the Settings folder in the Background! Folder and place it in the phonedmg folder.

Step 10. Type cd /Applications/Preferences.app/ and hit return. Then type putfile icon.png and return.

Step 11. That should be it! But hold on, before we can get those on your screen, we need to send your iPhone back to "jail" so iTunes will recognize it again. To do so, type cd /System/Library/Lockdown and return to get to the Lockdown directory.

Step 12. Now type rmdir Services.plist and hit return to remove the unlocked .plist file.

Step 13. Type putfile Services.plist and return to put the rejailed .plist back up...

Step 14. Type quit and return.

Step 15. Hold the sleep/wake button and home screen button on your iPhone for a few seconds to power it down, then power it back up by holding the sleep/power button again.
