Dev Team Jailbreak 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 Windows

From ModMyiFone - Wiki

Contents

Read this first!

First off, this guide assumes a couple things:

1. You are using windows. (Although it shouldn't be too hard to apply cross-platform.)

2. You phone is currently running 1.0.2 firmware. (Either because you were patient or you downgraded from 1.1.1.)

If you already have 1.1.1 running on your iPhone, this guide should help your downgrade back to 1.0.2: Downgrade iPhone 1.1.1 to firmware 1.0.2

3. You have SSH up and running on your iPhone. (And at least kinda know how to use it.)

If you don't have SSH running yet, install BSD Subsystem (if you haven't already) and OpenSSH through AppTapp Installer. (There are also other methods.)

4. You haven't used any unlock applications to modify your baseband to allow access on other services. (Supposedly the iPhone SimFree / iPSF method doesn't modify the baseband and might work with this guide. anySIM and iUnlock users, DO NOT ATTEMPT THE FOLLOWING!)

Download this!

Start by downloading this package and extracting it to wherever:

Everything you need to jailbreak your iPhone to 1.1.1

Alrighty, here we go:

Step 1

Your iPhone should be connected to your PC by its USB cord. Once you get SSH running, you will be able to communicate with your iPhone wirelessly. Until then, you should not unplug your iPhone for any reason!

Connect your iPhone to iTunes! You should be prompted to update your iPhone's firmware to 1.1.1 (as this guide assumes you are currently running 1.0.2). If you are not prompted, try going to Help > Check for Updates in iTunes. Now, this is important: press Download Only DO NOT press Download & Install!!

Press Download Only when this dialog appears.

Continue through these dialogs to download the firmware.

Step 2

Once downloaded, iTunes should give you the option to Update your iPhone. Good, but DO NOT press Update yet. Instead, when the download finishes, minimize iTunes but DO NOT close it. Connect to your iPhone via SSH (WinSCP has been included in the package).

IP Address: Check your current WiFi settings on your iPhone.
(If you have trouble, try issuing a static IP.)
Login Name: root
Password: Default password is usually dottie or alpine.
Connection Type: SCP
Port: 22

Navigate to the / (root) directory. Note: This is different that the /var/root/ or /private/var/root/ directories. When someone refers to the iPhone's root directory, they generally mean /.

In the terminal window (Ctrl+ T on WinSCP) issue these commands:

mv /var/root/Media /var/root/Media.old
ln -s / /var/root/Media

In WinSCP, which I have included in the download package, press Ctrl + T to open this Terminal.

Note: To verify, type the command 'ls' and make sure you see the two directories, /Media/ and /Media.old/. /Media/ might look like a shortcut in a GUI client.

Step 3

Pull up iTunes again and now hit the Update button. Sit back and relax while your phone is loaded up with the MobileMusicStore and an Edge switch!

Do not activate until after Step 4 (The completion of this guide). If for some reason your phone starts to activate, it is probably fine, just do not unplug it! You will need to close iTunes and preferably iTunesHelper in the meanwhile.

Find this button in the iPhone section of iTunes.

Note: You may want to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and open the Task Manager. Under the Processes tab, right click iTunes.exe and/or iTunesHelper.exe (whichever you see) and click End Process Tree. I didn't, but make sure you at least close iTunes by pressing the 'X'.

Step 4

Run iphuc-jailbreak.exe. Type the command 'ls'. You should see (among others) the /dev/ directory. If you see iTunes_Control, apparently you need to start over! Next type or copy the following command into iPHUC:

putjailbreak rdisk0s1 /dev/rdisk0s1

It should only take a second to upload the file.

Congratulations!

THAT'S IT! You have now achieved read/write access to the root directory of your iPhone (ie. your jailbroked biotch!) Make sure to restart your iPhone for the changes to take effect. To verify everything went smoothly, re-open iPHUC and type or copy the following command:

getfile /etc/fstab fstab

Then, check the directory that iphuc-jailbreak.exe is in for the file 'fstab'. Open it and look around for 'rw'. It may have it in there a few times, but nowhere should you see 'ro'. If you do see 'ro', you have probably failed and should try again.

If you are sure everything is looking good, start up iTunes again and activate your iPhone. It is normal to see that your iPhone's capacity is only 300mb at this time. This has to do with the method we used to "trick" the iPhone when we were jailbreaking. This error will be fixed if you continue to install SSH and BSD (the last step of the BSD guide you will eventually be linked to has you run two simple commands, fixing this error).

To continue and install SSH follow this guide (you will be able to follow a link to the BSD World installation guide from here):

Dev Team Installing SSH 1.1.1 Windows

Through SSH you can manually install a BSD subsystem and third-party applications, even AppTapp Installer which you can use to install even more apps. There is also another process you need to undergo to allow third-party app icons to appear on the SpringBoard.

Note: If you want to activate outside of iTunes (if you don't have a legitimate AT&T service for your iPhone) follow this guide (scroll down to the part about windows): Activate Your 1.1.1 iPhone Outside of iTunes
