Ever since Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) became so easy to manufacture, they have officially entered modern society, lighting everything from USB powered aquariums to homemade lightsabers, but what is all the rage these days are those scrolling LED marquee signs.  Once people saw them at gas stations advertising the lottery jackpot, they ended up becoming programmable geek-toys.  Its not surprising that this fad has leaked into the world of 3rd party iphone/ ipod touch applications. App designer Masayuki Akamatsu has brought the LED sign to our fingertips with his app called LED Banner.

Upon tapping the screen, a keyboard and option box will appear. This allows you to edit the text that displays on the scrolling sign to an infinite length.  By selecting ok, you will soon see your written text scrolling across a 20/30 Led grid. A period point (.) is shown as 4/4 LED square and it takes about 5 seconds to cross the screen. Though things such as speed and color are not customizable, you can still use it as a nametag, a way to show a discreet message, or anything you can think of. You can download it from the ModMyiFone installer source (http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml) or the source of the designer, Masayuki Akamatsu (http://akamatsu.org/repo.xml) .
